This past August we were invited again to participate in a panel on New Media and Journalistic Ethics during the Scripps Howard Latin American Media Ethics Seminar organized by the International Center for Journalists. The ICFJ selects 10 participants from Latin American and Caribbean countries and brings them to Washington, DC, to participate in a 10-day training program that has as goals
“to assist news media and journalists in Latin America to identify common threads of professional behavior, stimulate a dialogue about journalism independence, discuss country-specific principles of conduct, and encourage participants to reflect on their own personal code of ethics and to continue the discussion about ethics in their own newsrooms.” My good friend and partner in Podcastfera , Sonia Blanco from the Universidad de Málaga, Spain, joined me once again by videoconference and she recorded the entire session. The discussion is in Spanish and the video can be found in Podcastfera. This year I was very impressed by the high level of awareness of new media issues and significant practical experience with Web 2.0 and social media tools demonstrated by the current group of Latin American journalists. |
