AND it is not for Cinco de Mayo. It will be in September close to the real Mexican independence day.

McCain already went, of course, and nobody noticed, except the important voters in Florida who also noticed that he went to visit right-wing paramilitary president Alvaro Uribe in Colombia, very popular in Third World Country Miami.

We all know that Obama will be forced to visit the headquarters of la Virgen de Guadalupe, like EVERY single person that lives or visits Mexico is. But the real question is will he meet with president Felipe Calderón, or non-binding presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The latest from the dog-and-pony show otherwise known as the Obaman Latino media outreach effort has the presumptive Democratic candidate giving a speech Sunday late morning (11am EST for those who live in exactitudes) at this year’s media conflagration, UNITY: Journalists of Color, or something like that. But hardly anyone will be there for the same old crap speech because they’ll be heading back to their homes around the country.

It all started as a nice idea. But like nice ideas with no planning involved, things ended up in the crapper. This being an election year and all, the journos of color figured it would be good to invite both Obama and GOP rival John McCain. So with much fanfare, the UNITY folks prematurely promoted a candidates forum that was supposed to take place earlier in the week.

Mexico has clearly realized that Latino groups are as useful as a raincoat in the Sahara, because for the second year in a row, they are honoring a gringo with their highest civilian honor to foreigners, the Orden del Aguila Azteca.

This year it’s the only real Latino in Congress, Sen. Edward Kennedy, who clearly deserves it for caring about the beaners while the beaner so-called leadership is busy giving money to both sides or busy taking money from liquor companies and corporate sweatshops.

Mexico says Senator Kennedy “has denounced injustices suffered by immigrants,” and “promoted initiatives to promote full political participation and increased access to health and education services for the Mexican-American community.”

While that’s obviously true, he certainly deserves it for having the guts to sing in public.

For the first time in 29 years, the Marxist-Leninist Workers World Party will not field a presidential candidate in 2008, deciding that the Green Party Cynthia McKinney/Rosa Clemente matchup is just the ticket.

The WWP, not to be confused with the World Worms Party, says the McKinney/Clemente team is “Black-led, anti-imperialist, working-class-centered and has a multinational radical base with the potential of unlimited growth.”

Nothing about being knee deep in paranoia or anti-Semitism, but that’s what we’re here for.

So, Rosa Clemente, felicidades and time to turn swords into plowshares! Up with People, mi gente!

Oh, and by the way, just in case you were wondering, the WPP world headquarters in NYC is staffed by non-union people.
