Nader announces Matt Gonzalez as his running mate

Beginning a climb as steep as some of the streets in his hometown, former San Francisco Supervisor Matt Gonzalez signed on Thursday as running mate in Independent Ralph Nader’s mid-stream - and many say, quixotic - bid for the White House.

“Everyone wants to blame him for running,” said Gonzalez, a 42-year-old consumer activist who will take a leave from his law practice to focus on the campaign.

“But he has to run, because the other parties don’t want to fix the problems with election reform. They’ve put us in an awkward position - either we never run for office, and the problems never get fixed; or run, try to win votes on substance and get criticized for it.”

Were student crucifixes gang-related?

Two teenagers suspended for “gang-related behavior” because they were wearing crucifixes say they were only wearing gifts from their mothers.

Jaime Salazar, 14, and his friend Marco Castro, 16, were suspended from South Albany High School after they refused to put away the crucifixes.

Salazar said that Principal Chris Equinoa saw his necklace and told him to put it away. “I was like, why?” Salazar said. “He says it’s related to gangs.”

Salazar said he argued and was sent to the office, but went home instead. He later received a note saying he had been suspended for five days for “defiance and gang-related behavior.”

Castro, a junior, was suspended for three days after refusing to take off a string of rosary beads, with a crucifix and a tiny picture of the Virgin Mary.

Well forget DHS, the Albany police has gone too far!!! Where’s the Latino organizations that do nothing when you need some Virgencita pride?

McCain’s Birthplace Raises Questions

WASHINGTON (Feb. 28) - The question has nagged at the parents of Americans born outside the continental United States for generations: Dare their children aspire to grow up and become president? In the case of Senator John McCain of Arizona, the issue is becoming more than a matter of parental daydreaming.

Mr. McCain’s likely nomination as the Republican candidate for president and the happenstance of his birth in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936 are reviving a musty debate that has surfaced periodically since the founders first set quill to parchment and declared that only a “natural-born citizen” can hold the nation’s highest office.

AND they didn’t even give us credit as the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal did.

It is bad enough that they make up news about non-binding relationships, they don’t even give us credit where credit is due.

CLINTON SUPPORTER ALLEGEDLY STABBED FAMILY MEMBER WHO SUPPORTED OBAMA

NORRISTOWN — One man is in jail and another was admitted to the hospital for treatment of a stab wound following a heated argument last week in Upper Providence over Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Jose Antonio Ortiz, 28, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another for the Feb. 21 stabbing of his brother-in-law, Sean Shurelds, 42.

If convicted on the felony charge of aggravated assault, Ortiz would be barred from voting.

Even more ironic is that, according to county voter registration records, Ortiz is a registered Republican.

Shurelds, a registered Democrat who supports Obama, told Ortiz that Obama was whipping Clinton in the contest for the Democratic nomination for U.S. President. Ortiz responded that Obama “was not a realist,” according to the complaint.
