I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again–it’s rare to find stories that DON’T have Latinos. Take the tragic mining accident that happened recently in Utah. Turns out three of the miners that are trapped are Mexican:

Al menos tres de los mineros son mexicanos.

And that’s not all! The news wouldn’t be complete without the obviously annoying important question: do these brave men trapped under feet of rubble have papers?

Ariana Sánchez, de 16 años, dijo que su padre Manuel Sánchez, de 42, estaba entre los mineros atrapados.

Aparte de Sánchez, se sabía poco de los seis mineros, pero el cónsul de México en Salt Lake City, Salvador Jiménez, dijo el martes que tres de ellos son ciudadanos de ese país.

Jiménez, sin embargo, indicó que no sabía detalles de los hombres, incluyendo si eran residentes en Estados Unidos, sus edades o de dónde provenían.

So there you have it, folks. Maybe this is an occasion where we should strike rubble now, ask immigration questions later. Let’s just hope that after all that these miners have been through they will not get a swift boot kick back to Guerrero.

Well turns out that border security hearts no one, not even a three-foot tall Brit pop star…

Lily Allen’s US work visa taken

Pop star Lily Allen has had her US work visa cancelled after arriving at Los Angeles airport.

The 22-year-old, who is due to tour America in September, had flown in for the MTV Video Music Awards launch.

A spokesman for the singer said: “She’s still in America. All her commitments will carry on as normal. The work visa will be sorted out by her next visit.”

She was held at the airport for five hours in connection with an arrest for an alleged assault in London in June.

The arrest arose from an incident outside a London nightclub in March and resulted in a caution for common assault.

But never you worry. I’m sure Uncle Sam will straighten her papers faster than the line at Pollo Campero Rico. She was apparently questioned but not strip searched (pity) and will be coming soon to…San Diego! City where her fellow foreigners are never kicked out to Tijuana.
