Cuba Is Not Dubai

So while Halliburton moves to be close to oil interest among axis of evil nations to avoid whatever few taxes they paid in Texas, Mel Martínez, wants to make sure Cubans continue to ride bicycles … and something about a buffer for Florida.

MARTINEZ INTRODUCES BILL TO BLOCK CUBA OIL PRODUCTION

Washington , DC – U.S. Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) today introduced legislation that would block Cuba from engaging in the production of oil and natural gas resources off the coast of Florida . The bill would not weaken enforcement of current U.S. Maritime policy.

“This bill sends a clear message that any attempt to develop Cuba ’s oil exploration program will be met with strong sanctions. Supporting the Castro regime in the development of its petroleum is detrimental to U.S. policy and our national security,” Martinez said. “It would be contrary to the direction of U.S. policy to place the future of America ’s energy resources in the hands of an anti-American dictator with a record of expropriating U.S. oil company assets.” Additionally Martinez said, “This ban will continue to protect Florida ’s coastal waters and maritime habitats from the exposure of unnecessary drilling.”

The bill specifically amends the Cuban Liberty and Democratic Solidarity Act of 1996 to deny U.S. visas to any foreign agent or entity that contributes to the development of Cuba ’s oil-exploration program. The bill further imposes sanctions on any individuals or entities that invest $1 million or more to develop Cuba ’s oil and natural gas resources.

Martinez ’s bill introduction comes on the same day as Senators Byron Dorgan (D-ND) and Larry Craig (R-ID) are introducing a bill to open Cuban waters to U.S. companies seeking oil and natural gas drilling leases. Martinez has said of the Dorgan/Craig proposal, “The Dorgan/Craig proposal is bad policy. It attacks Florida ’s protections and goes back on everything the Congress dealt with last year – everything we did to create a long-term buffer for Florida .”

Trouble for The HousePANIC Mexican Who Took Ashcroft’s Job

Apparently the democrats don´t want Hispanics at high levels of government. They are using excuses like the Constitution, nepotism, corruption, illegal activities and the Law to try to send back to the Texan border Mr. Al Gonzales, who was supported and honored by the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), and they would never support a Latino that is bad for us.

Anyway, seems like all this started because another Latino, David Iglesias, lost his job for not bowing to Gonzales best boss ever, Bush, and unlike most Hispanics instead of just looking for another job, he decided to denounce some telemarketing phone calls from Senator Domenici’s office. And even though he is trying to blame his Scooter Libby type assistant, I doubt he inspires as much fear and loyalty as Cheney does. (but almost, just the fear part)

I don´t have much to add to the hyper media-blog coverage of this, but since we are on the topic of Gonzales, it would be nice if some old media decided to investigate what happened to his brother who died and that the family refuses to talk about….

AND while we are on the topic of investigating his secret past, what does the R in Alberto R. Gonzales stand for anyway?

> Alberto R. Gonzales - the White House declined to release his middle name, saying that Mr. Gonzales prefers the initial - was born on Aug. 4, 1955.

We of course have a few nonbinding guesses about what the R stands for:

Redstate, requetependejo, regañón, rata, retardado, refunfuñón, relajo, regaño, refri (which could be refrigerador, or refrito), recalentado, rebozo, remolque, remolino, rehusar, ridículo,

AND : reina, as in “mi reina”

So anyone on the internets know? Pass it on.
