I came across this most interesting correction today from the Associated Press…. and I am still not clear if they mean Papa like potato (and Pope) or Papá like father…. anyway I thought the correction was hilarious until I saw that the article says that there is a campaign aimed at Latinos that will be using napkins.

Now I am all in favor of napkins and stuff, but I don´t get my health or legal information from them…. I also wonder how this would work in those Latino restaurants where they cut the napkins in like 4 squares and give you just a little piece…

Correction: Rape Comic story

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ In a March 11th story about a fotonovela on statutory rape, The Associated Press misspelled one word in the Spanish title. It is Papa, not Papi.

Here is the correct version, in its entirety:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ Fotonovelas — Latino comic books — are about to be handed out across the state.

The health department hopes they’ll be used to combat statutory rape among Hispanic girls — a group considered to be at higher risk because of a limited understanding of American laws as well as cultural mores that condone May-December relationships.

The effort stems from Virginia’s “Isn’t she a little young?” statutory rape campaign — a 2004 project employing everything from billboards to napkins.

Robert Franklin — a health department male outreach coordinator — immediately got requests to translate the materials into Spanish.

The department spent two years developing the comic book — entitled “Gracias Papa: A fotonovela about a young woman, an older guy and a loving father.”

Popularized in Latin America, fotonovelas use photographs of live actors instead of drawings, and illustrate soap opera-like stories.
