Adventures of the Coconut Caucus

Even though we pointed out way back, that a Panamanian was runing for presidente before Richardson López, now the local mainstream media, has brought to our attention another Hispanic who wanted to live in the White House, campaigned in 40 states and actually won like 1 million non electronic votes.

He was then unfortunately defeated by some guy called Ronald Reagan.

So despite what everybody has been saying, Richardson López’ may be the first Latino democratic presidential candidate govenor of New Mexico to be on you tube, but not the first to run.

I give you Benjamín Fernández, from Kansas, who actually had the traditional “humble beginings”, was born in a train boxcar, picked tomatos with his immigrant parents, was a waiter AND a dishwasher, became a millionaire and then a Republican.

Anyway, he has now been discovered by the Alburqueque Journal and then AP:

ALBUQUERQUE Democratic Governor Richardson has said he’s proud to be the first Hispanic to run for president.
But the Albuquerque Journal reports today in a copyright story that isn’t the case.

A spokesman for Richardson, Pahl Shipley, says the Richardson campaign — quoting — “was looking at the Democratic side of things.”

Shipley also says Richardson is the first serious Latino candidate.

I still claim this as the first nonbinding blog exclusively dedicated to the Hispanic Caucus and anything else that crosses my path…
