Ken Salazar Sponsors Bill to Give Another Bill a Longer Title

Just as we put on our list of 100 primer impacto hours, (updated) part of Ken Salazar’s to do list, is to continue to pretend to be a democrat, while actually being a republican.

So he did not waste any time and has now sponsored this SUPER important ammendment to a bill from last year. Here it is in the nice language of Colorado farmers straight from the press release:

United States Senator Ken Salazar introduced a bill late yesterday to add César Chávez’s name to the title of the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act.

Last year, at the request of Senator Salazar, Senator Patrick Leahy introduced an amendment in the Senate Judiciary Committee which added Chavez’ name to the Senate’s bill.

The Committee reported out the “Fannie Lou Hamer, Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King, and César E. Chávez Voting Rights Act Reauthorization and Amendments Act of 2006,” but ultimately the House version of the bill was approved by the full Senate and did not include Chávez’s name.

So there you have it, Salazar in not really concerned with the ISSUE of voting rights, just the NAME.

Telemundo and Saddam Lead to Boy’s Death

Yes, we even tackle tragic subjects like these, and we will get back to the Caucus in a few, because they have been very busy in the last 24 hours…..

This comes from the Houston Chronicle, and is not the only case.

A 10-year-old boy who apparently was mimicking the execution of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein accidentally hanged himself on New Year’s Eve, authorities said.

Sergio Pelico’s mother told police he had watched a report on Saddam’s death on a Telemundo news broadcast before he hanged himself, Claunch said. Read the rest of this entry »

Latina Fired For Plagiarizing the Birthday of Jesus

Our Orgullo Hispano section keeps expanding…

Move over Jason Blair, we got our own (except she is not at the NYT or famous so nobody will notice, which is fine by me)

A San Antonio Express-News newsroom employee resigned Tuesday after admitting she used, without attribution, information from a Web site for a Christmas Day column. Later research uncovered further examples of plagiarism in two other columns.

Jacqueline Gonzalez, the Watchdog columnist and administrative assistant to Express-News Editor Robert Rivard, resigned Tuesday after admitting the judgment error Friday.

The initial investigation found information, taken from Wikipedia, a free Internet encyclopedia, was published in the Watchdog column. The information that was not attributed concerned the origin of Dec. 25 as the birth date of Jesus Christ.

I would love to tell you what it is that she found so interesting in Wikipedia about the birthday of Jesus, but the column has miraculously “disappeared” from the internets.

And then they say Latinos aren’t internet savvy….

A Super Historic Day

So many historic tidbits today, so little time…. The first woman speaker, the first Muslim, the first time so many Hispanics are in Congress, the first time Ciro Rodríguez gets his office back etc…
Our highlight, as we mentioned, was for newly crowned Nancy Pelosi to show up at the  pretend ceremonial swearing in of the Hispanic Caucus after everyone else at 6 PM at a hotel instead of at the Capitol.

Web site coming soon.

She did not disappoint, because even though she hasn´t had time to launch her web site, she was able to dedicate half a second to the Hispanic Caucus and best of all we will finally be rich and equal:

‘The CHC will lead the charge for opportunity, equality, and prosperity for Hispanic Americans

Nothing represents change more than diversity in the halls of power. Today we have sworn in 22 members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, including two new ones. We welcome Albio Sires, and we welcome back our dear friend and former CHC chair Ciro Rodriguez. They will invigorate our debate and enrich our work.”

AND then she showed her love to Nydia Velázquez by misspelling her name on her official press release about how she is so personally impressed by Caucus members:

We are proud to call two members of the CHC Chairman and Chairwoman - Silvestre Reyes, and Nydia Velasquez.
