Micro bio: Her web page states: Given her achievements, her roots are humble. Nydia Margarita Velázquez was born March 28, 1953 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. One of 9 kids (I notice a trend here) When Velázquez was only 16, she enrolled in the University of Puerto Rico. In 1974 she graduated with high honors and became the first one in her family to receive a college diploma.
(There are alot of the first in the familia to do something in the caucus, and even I can claim I am the first in mi familia to have a blog about these Congresistas)
Random factoid: She has a twin sister, who is NOT in Congress.
Claim to fame: Attempted suicide at least once with vodka and pills and since she failed, she then sued for 10 million.
Oh yeah, and she is also on some list of famous boricuas
