McCain To Address Another Useless Latino Gala Event

Well in all the madness of Obama’s boring white guy VP nomination, let us not forget what our fearless leaders in our many MANY useful Latino organizations are doing to pursue the interests of our community! The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, an organization focused on Latino youth types like America Ferrera or J-Lo playing a TV maid is choosing the ONLY Latino left in the race to take over the White House to speak at a gala where media types sit at the nosebleed section (there’s no such thing as a free gala dinner).

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) celebrates 31 years of serving Latino youth with its 31st Annual Awards Gala on Wednesday, September 10, 2008. This year’s theme, The Power to Make the Difference, commemorates the vast contributions Hispanic Americans have made to this country and celebrates the historic opportunity it has to impact the future of the United States.
Presidential candidate Sen. John McCain of Arizona will address the crowd of more than 2,300, including as many as 40 Members of Congress in attendance.
And of course, this event could not be complete without the attendance of some of our long forgotten, also 3-foot-tall Caucus leaders:
This year’s Chairman’s Award, selected by CHCI Chairman Joe Baca (CA-43), will be presented to three pioneering Members of Congress, Reps. Solomon P. Ortiz (TX-27), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-18), and Jose E. Serrano (NY-16).
I mean, remember last year? OK so it’s not letting me insert the image but it looks something like this.
And like any other Latino event, this gala cannot be complete without either Eddie Olmos or this dude:

The event will be emceed by Tony Plana, star of ABC’s hit comedy “Ugly Betty,” with gala entertainment provided by Grammy award-winning artists Los Lonely Boys.

Boricuas With Bling Have Panamanian’s Back

OMG stop the presses! National Boricua hero Daddy Yankee hearts our favorite Latino trying to take over the White House!

McCain Earns Backing From Daddy Yankee

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Grammy-winning singer Daddy Yankee voiced his support for John McCain on Monday as the Republican presidential candidate described Democratic rival Barack Obama as an “honorable opponent.”

Daddy Yankee, whose real name is Ramon Ayala, appeared with the Arizona senator in front of around 100 students at Phoenix’s Central High School, the alma-mater of McCain’s wife Cindy.

Ayala said he was supporting McCain because of his support for immigration reform. “I’m here to support senator McCain,” Ayala said.

Thank GOD we know that know! Phew! Now it’s just time to sit in anticipation wondering who Noelia is going to back up (no pun intended).

Castro Still Alive, Ready To Outlive Panamanian or Black Man

Guess who’s still around, Miami?

HAVANA (Reuters) - Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro turned 82 on Wednesday, still a world and national figure even though he has not been seen in public since falling ill two years ago.

After ruling for almost 50 years, Castro follows a special diet for an undisclosed illness that required intestinal surgery and admits he does not have the strength he once had.

(AND BTW that is the biggest birthday cake I have seen in my life. Quinceañeras everywhere in Cuba are crying)

But he occasionally surfaces in videos on state-run television. The most recent showed him to be more robust than those aired a few months after his July 2006 operation.

Apparently even from the bedside, Fidel is stealing his bro’s thunder. And guess who’s not shocked? Cubans!

Cubans, accustomed to Fidel running the show, were not surprised, said 69-year-old retiree Aida Flores.

“Fidel is doing almost the same that he’s always done,” she said. “Raul is not going to stop listening to his advice.”

No comment yet from our presidential candidates. Guess no one’s worried about the South Florida vote…stay tuned.

Women Prefer Black Man To Panamanian

So women DO prefer black men… And it’s been corroborated by Reuters, a good white real media source!

More women want to carpool with Obama than McCain

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Women would rather carpool or go on vacation with Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama than with his Republican rival John McCain, a new poll of U.S. women voters showed on Tuesday.

AND guess what? Prepare to be SHOCKED:

The poll showed Obama holds a strong lead among all women voters but McCain polls better with white women, seniors and stay-at-home moms.

Which means watch out. Senior citizens always vote in record numbers (although this may be the first time they vote in record numbers for a Central American).

Huge Useless Latino Organization Is Made Hugely Rich By Getting You To Spend Huge Money Drinking

Well in the midst of this 5-buck-a-gallon recession, we would like to take the time to remind you of the small, hardworking useless organizations that pretend to advocate for Latinos.

And now, they want to teach us how to spend MORE money drinking!

The National Council of La Raza Receives $250,000 for its Financial Literacy Efforts

As part of the Estamos Unidos con un Proposito(TM) (We Are United with a Purpose(TM)) campaign, Diageo, the world’s leading premium drinks company, donated $250,000 to the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) for their efforts in helping improve financial literacy among U.S. Latinos. Diageo and NCLR partnered to provide consumers with local financial education seminars free-of-charge and an informational hotline where consumers accessed financial resources including the campaign’s signature free bilingual audio CD.

“This partnership enabled our network of local organizations to expand their community outreach efforts and offer more financial education seminars during uncertain economic times,” (AKA don’t spend money on flor de caña during a recession) said Janet Murguia, President and CEO of the National Council of La Raza, the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States. “This campaign provided Latino families with essential financial tools to help manage their money and build equity in this country.”

The donation to NCLR is a culmination of the We are United with a Purpose(TM) campaign, now in its third year, which assisted hundreds of Latinos to access financial education resources within their local community. After this year, the campaign, supported by Diageo brands including Buchanan’s(R) De Luxe Scotch whisky, Crown Royal(R) Canadian whisky, Johnnie Walker(R) Scotch whisky, Jose Cuervo(R) Tradicional tequila, and Tequila Don Julio(R), has invested nearly three-quarters of a million dollars to helping improve the lives of Latinos throughout the United States.

There you go! This is the equivalent of your drunk uncle asking you to borrow 20 bucks for another bottle of Cuervo. Salud, Raza!
