Adventures of the Coconut Caucus

I have barely had a minute this week to update everybody on the latest Hispanic happenings, because it turns out I DO have a life, so here goes our news sancocho roundup in bullet point form:

• Bill Richardson wants more aliens to land in New Mexico
• Hispanic representatives of Third World Country Miami want you to buy expensive gas

• Finally a Latino on PBS!!!!!!! and he is not on Sesame Street.

• Zero Rodríguez gets a sidewalk built!
• Bush had breakfast with the 3 Hispanics that still support him
• Hillary Clinton had lunch with Hispanics who all support her

The coconuts have been offended lately because Obama hasn´t personally attended the quinceañeras of their daughters or called them to wish them a happy Cinco de Mayo.

They are especially almost pissed off because after more than a year of them campaigning fiercely for Hillary and criticizing Obama and telling Latinos not to vote for him, they weren´t the first on his list of friends and family to call.

But they made enough noise, and since Obama does need Hispanics to vote for him, they all met together at the DNC at a closed door non-binding meeting at 5 PM on Tuesday, and made sure they didn´t tell ANYONE in the Hispanic Media, and picked such a convenient time to meet waaaay past any news deadline, EVEN for the West Coast.

So here is the only thing you need to know about this meeting in which the Latina members of Congress were VERY ABSENT….

Yes mi gente, it is time again for a news sancocho.

There is waaaaay too much going on in Puerto Rico with the non-binding primaries that who has time to cover it all for a blog that pays squat…

So here we go with the bullet point version….

• Michelle Obama is waaaay taller than Joe Baca, and everybody else on the island.
• Since everybody and their cousin is flying to campaign in PR, this is how you do a proper landing.
• Hillary Clinton dresses for local island events
• AP  turns the president of the P.R. Senate, Kenneth McClintock, into a mere translator:

Our fearless leader Joe Baca wants the democratic leadership in Congress to know that he is really, really, really, really, really, really, red in the face about how they keep trying to be republicans when it comes to Latinos and to immigration:

WASHINGTON — Rep. Joe Baca, chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, is steamed. Latinos have become a political “punching bag” this year, the California Democrat complained recently, attacked by “the misinformed” and “the misguided.”

If you think he’s talking about Republican presidential candidates and vocal immigration critics such as CNN’s Lou Dobbs and Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, you’d be mistaken. The target of Baca’s ire is the House Democratic leadership.

AND this time they are so mad that they are actually threatening to consider almost doing something about it. (According to our sources boycotting grapes not on the table for now)

Baca and other Latino lawmakers on Capitol Hill are angry at their fellow Democrats — and they say they’re not going to take it anymore.
