Hispanic Caucus Drools Over Piolín

It has been a while since what is left of the Hispanic Caucus has done much of anything, but no politician can resist cameras, especially if Kennedy is involved.

So like 5 minutes before radio DJ Piolín and his media caravan arrived at the Capitol with something like 1 million signatures in favor of immigration reform, members of the Caucus found out about it and decided to join this dream photo op.

We love Piolin

AND in case you are some kind of skeptic that actually believes the congresspersons where planing way ahead of time to be there to support the humble efforts of those who signed the letters and not just when they found out Univision would be there, check out this note on the press release (their typo)

Media: Please note there will be no multbox available at press conference. So please bring appropriate sound equipment to attach to podium.

So anyway, in a great show of unity, Baca, Napolitano, Solís, Diaz Balart, Menéndez, Martínez and others showed up to drool allover the cameras and mics….(and wished they had half of Piolín´s ratings)

AND not only that, according to defacto fearless leader Joe Baca´s press release, the million letters where for them…and the press conference was all about unveiling a bunch of empty boxes… (Yes, the boxes where symbolic of the more than a million letters, who knows where those are, I will let the old media investigate that one)

What: Press conference unveiling over 1 million letters signed by U.S. citizens and/or legal residents (because they had to show ID or proof of citizenship… NOT) collected by Univision Radio personality Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo during his cross country trip to support the passage of a fair and just immigration reform bill this year.

Three Cubans Endorse a Panamanian For President

In what for some reason is being called the “first big endorsement from the nation’s biggest battleground state”, Ileana Ros Lethinen, and Fidel Castro´s ex-nephews have endorsed Panamanian John McCain for president.

From the Miami Herald (apparently the only paper to cover this MAJOR endorsement from Third World Country Miami)

McCain’s campaign already has tapped a Miami political consulting team who worked for Gov. Charlie Crist’s campaign, Carlos Curbelo and Danny Lopez, to organize events and conduct Hispanic outreach. (We hope to be outreached to)

‘John McCain is strong on national defense and the security of the homeland, yet at same time he is sensitive to the needs of the nation domestically,” Ros-Lehtinen said. “He also understands the threats of the Castro regime.” (And will get a seat of honor for the party at the Orange Bowl)

Meanwhile, Back at The Hispanic Conference…

What a difference an election cycle makes….

Marion and Lincoln

Democrats are urged to address immigration

A comprehensive immigration overhaul and temporary protected status for Haitians should be government priorities, two Republican congressmen from Miami urged.

”We’re concerned because the Democrats . . . have given no signs of giving any importance or priority to immigration,” said U.S. Rep. Lincoln Díaz-Balart, a Miami Republican. “It’s time for the Democratic leadership to put up or shut up.”

Now, usually they would be joined in this effort by a bunch of Hispanic Democrats… but we all know what they have been up to lately.

Fortuño Creates Nonexistent New Committee

For all of you with any kind of inferiority complex or maybe you are afraid of coming to Congress, Puerto Rico’s pretend congressperson has created a new committee, the Reassures Committee™, which will help you with your problems.

Comité de Reasuraciones y Oraciones

Formerly known as the Resources Committee, the new Reassures Committee™ will specialize in empathizing with your problem, which will come in handy when you testify about an issue that will surely go nowhere, such as statehood or independence for Puerto Rico or universal healthcare…

The original photo here.

But hey, he did succeed in getting 25 cents.

(We assume that his next action item will be to battle Roselló to see who gets their face on the peseta)
