Is there a mole slurpee in your future?

By La bloguera, April 12, 2010 2:05 pm

So finally 7-11 realizes that since Latinos are hanging out there anyway… might as well give them a reason to come in and buy something other than calling cards…

7-Eleven Develops Private Label Products for Hispanics

- DALLAS — 7-Eleven Inc., in conjunction with Seven-Eleven Mexico, is developing private-label foods that will appeal to Hispanic shoppers, Supermarket News reported.

The items will eventually be sold in Seven-Eleven Mexico’s 1,200 stores and in U.S. 7-Eleven locations serving a high concentration of Hispanic shoppers.

Maybe a guayaba slurpee might be better.

One Less Babaloo Blowhard To Deal With

By La Neta, February 11, 2010 9:21 pm

A different kind of storm swept through Capitol Hill today when Rep. Lincoln Díaz-Balart (R-Fla.) announced he was not going to run for reelection, retiring instead to go make beaucoup bucks as a lawyer in Miami.

We have been scratching our heads trying to remember if there is ANYTHING the Cuban-American legislator has done besides loud, bilingual and constant tirades against Fidel Castro.  Can’t think of anything.

Anyhoo, his severely underserved constituents need not worry about having to change any embroidered napkins, at least not the last names. Little bro Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, who almost got his a** whipped by a Democrat in the last congressional election, is jumping over to Lincoln’s more Republican-friendly district, to continue his job of non-stop constant tirades against Castro (oh, and a couple of hurricane preparedness pressers) without having to worry about a challenge from someone who actually wants to do something in Congress.

Oh, and get this…why didn’t this Spanish-language network cover this at all?

Hopefully it’s not because the anchor is another Díaz-Balart, baby bro José, because that would be pretty stooopid!!

Meet your State of the Union 2010 token Hispanics

By La bloguera, January 27, 2010 2:00 pm

The White House has released the list of those chosen few who get to sit somewhere near Michelle Obama during the first president of color SOTU ever.

And is customary, there are some people on the list with Hispanic sounding names, an actual one of “Ecuadorean” origins, and of course a Latina mother with no insurance.

So here is the official White House list…

Gabriela Farfan (Madison, WI)

Gabriela is a 19-year old from Madison, Wisconsin whose passion for geology started at a young age – collecting rocks as a seven-year old with her father. In 2009, as a senior in high school, her hard-work and research won her one of the top awards in the Intel Science Talent Search, winning a scholarship for her independent research describing why certain gemstones appear to change color when viewed from different angles—a finding that directly affects the gemstone industry and may have applications in the nano and materials sciences. Gabriela is now in college as a freshman at Stanford University, and a declared geology major.

Gabriela is also a National Hispanic Scholar awardee, has two very proud parents, Abigail Farfan and Carlos Peralta, and has a real dedication to the arts: singing, drawing, painting, speaking French and Spanish, and following operas and musicals.

Cindy Parker-Martinez (Belle Isle, FL)

Cindy is a mother of two young children, who shared her story of the problems her family faces with the current health care system at a Health Care Community Discussion held at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, one of thousands of discussions held nationwide in December 2008. Orgullo Hispano NEWS FLASH-Latinos Still Hate Gays

By Ticatecla, December 2, 2009 4:54 pm

Duh statement of the day: the gay marriage issue tends to be one that many Latinos will not touch with a ten foot pole (even though we all have a gay tío at least who helped us do our hair for some ridiculous quinceañera).

So although the New York State Senate decided that by legalizing gay marriage they were all going to be forced to screw a bearish gay man/big butch leathermamma lesbian and therefore they could NOT unvirginize their behinds, there were some pretty awesome comments from black senators. Here’s some excerpts from some MSM source…

Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson, a Democrat who represents parts of the Bronx and Westchester County, spoke publicly for the first time about her gay brother, who was shunned by her family and moved to France.

“When I walk through these doors, my Bible stays out,” said Senator Eric Adams, a Brooklyn Democrat who compared the law preventing same-sex marriage with laws that kept blacks and whites from marrying. “I believe there are certain moments here where we can benchmark our lives by the votes we took.”

So where are the Latino senators? And what will they say? Um…make us proud?

State Senator Rubén Díaz Sr. of the Bronx made an impassioned argument against same-sex marriage, describing his continued opposition as reflecting the broad consensus that marriage should be limited to a union between a man and woman. “Not only the evangelicals, not only the Jews, not only the Muslims, not only the Catholics, but also the people oppose it,” he said.

Uh. Ok…never mind. Nothing but bad news today, raza.

Not Your Friendly Neighborhood Salvo

By Ticatecla, December 2, 2009 4:32 pm

Unless you’re a blondie.  And there’s no Mexicans in Houston, right? Anybody? Bueler?

Some toy drives check immigration status

They don’t claim to know who’s been naughty or nice, but some Houston charities are asking whether children are in the country legally before giving them toys.

In a year when more families than ever have asked for help, several programs providing Christmas gifts for needy children require at least one member of the household to be a U.S. citizen. Others ask for proof of income or rely on churches and schools to suggest recipients.

Who would be capable of such a thing, you ask?

The Salvation Army and a charity affiliated with the Houston Fire Department are among those that consider immigration status, asking for birth certificates or Social Security cards for the children.

Which means amigos, that for our brown hated-by-Lou-Dobbs friends, Santa just went from this:

To this:

Guess I was always suspect of a fat white guy that gives things out for free. Feliz Navidad, Houston bigots!
