Another entry in our section: Thank God for Black People…
Apparently way too busy shopping for sequins for the next brown people bash,

the Congressional Hispanic Caucus/Flojo Caucus has been MUDO on an issue their African American counterparts are running with: the lack of diversity in the bailouts.
The CBC has even (HORRORS!) CRITICIZED President Obama, something the CHC has no pantalones to do.

Check out the story from our dear friends at The Associated Press: Continue reading 'African Americans Speak for MIA Coconutters'»
So while the rest of you were watching the long winded Barack Obama prime time press conference on the usual suspects, C-Span, MSNBC, CNN, or whatever local channel decided to interrupt its programing, we thought it might be way more fun to watch him in Spanish.
AND this is what you missed by not doing likewise:
On Univision (which interrupted Cuidado con el Angel to bring you this) Obama sounded like an agitated old man with a slight Cuban accent:
Later, as the presser went on and on, the the guy became less agitated as he was reassured that the deficit is really not all that bad, however they turned a Black male reporter into an Argentinian lady:
Meanwhile on Telemundo: A younger version of the generic South American guy, trying to sound like he has no accent, but is probably Colombian.

The death of the MSM seems to be a grave concern of one of our favorite I’m not running for governor mayor’s, especially since with all the downsizing and all, that means less reporters (and reporteras) covering him!
Now obviously this statement will be interpreted by us in this context.
According to LA Observed:
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was speaking in his office Friday to a delegation from the California Chicano News Media Association: Latino Journalists of California.
At one point, per notes sent to me, he told them: “I’m not afraid of the press. When they push hard I push back … (But) I respect the right of the press to be tough.” Then the talk turned to the state of the news media that covers him.

I have press conferences where reporters don’t show up anymore - it’s just (TV) cameras. It’s scary….A regular day would be six, seven cameras … (Now) you get five on a great day … I’m actually concerned….
I’ve been around some really, really, really top [news] people and a lot of them are leaving.
I wonder where all those top news people are going...
Just in case you’re wondering, the word for flojo (flow-ho) in English is loose, or weak, or ho hum or lazy. So now on to what all the flojoness is all about.
If Rep. Hilda SolÃs is hoping that support from national Hispanic leaders will push her nomination forward toward the Labor Department, she should be quite worried, because they acted like flojos.

There was a conference call today with the usual suspects, all of them allegedly outraged that SolÃs is waiting for over a month for a vote on her nomination for Labor Secretary.

We say allegedly because from the tone of the conference call, it sounded more like a wake. A reporter even fell asleep.

In fact, it was so low key that the Associated Press reporter asked them, “hey how come you don’t become more outraged” or something like that. And they said well, you know, we’re hoping, and we’re urging, bla bla bla. It was so quiet, it was hard to hear.

So for the most ignored story of the day: Felipe Calderón is 3 feet tall.
Let me rephrase that: He is shorter than the American flag

AP
He also had tortilla soup and looked at some paintings with Obama.
The topic of Mexico is so important that this is what pool reporters were concerned about:
1:53 addressed reporters just before in a large upstairs room decorated with rugs and tapestries. Each made a statement and took no questions. Obama also made a statement about TARP. Will send verbatim shortly and lunch details.
On TARP, Obama said he will refocus the second half of funds to do more on home foreclosures and for small business and consumer credit and increase accountability and transparency. He said he called President Bush to trigger the second half because it would be “irresponsible” to enter the White House without doing so and that “many of us have been disappointed with the absence of clarity,” lack of transparency and failure to do enough so far on foreclosures.
For those of you who have nothing better to do, here is the rest of their bilateral non-binding encounter:
