After Beaner Silence, White Man Says Something
Comments (0) Most everyone spouting Kumbayah and good feelings since Obama got elected have forgotten the spike in hate crimes against Latinos and other people of color. Latinos have been getting beaten up just for the hell of it, with a few of them paying with their lives.
Not surprisingly, most Hispanic groups have been too busy getting fitted for their inauguration gala gowns to really pay too much attention.
It took the death of an Ecuadoran immigrant in NYC to FINALLY get the Mexican American Legal whatever whatever whatever fund to say something, and only after Sen. Chuck Schumer first said something. Schumer is considering expanding the federal anti-hate crime laws to include crimes based on gender, sexual orientation, and even ethnicity. The law currently only covers things crimes against “federally protected activities,” such as voting.
Anyway, it’s nice to see someone FINALLY said something. You will of course recall that it was an outfit of white civil rights lawyers that helped another beaten-up Latino successfully sue a bunch of racists. The Mexican American Legal whatever whatever fund has YET to comment on that whole incident.
And we’re still waiting for the change guy to say SOMETHING.
