Not Your Friendly Neighborhood Salvo

By Ticatecla, December 2, 2009 4:32 pm

Unless you’re a blondie.  And there’s no Mexicans in Houston, right? Anybody? Bueler?

Some toy drives check immigration status

They don’t claim to know who’s been naughty or nice, but some Houston charities are asking whether children are in the country legally before giving them toys.

In a year when more families than ever have asked for help, several programs providing Christmas gifts for needy children require at least one member of the household to be a U.S. citizen. Others ask for proof of income or rely on churches and schools to suggest recipients.

Who would be capable of such a thing, you ask?

The Salvation Army and a charity affiliated with the Houston Fire Department are among those that consider immigration status, asking for birth certificates or Social Security cards for the children.

Which means amigos, that for our brown hated-by-Lou-Dobbs friends, Santa just went from this:

To this:

Guess I was always suspect of a fat white guy that gives things out for free. Feliz Navidad, Houston bigots!

Happy Cinco de Mayo: Haciendas con bandera Jealous of Mexicans

By La bloguera, May 5, 2009 1:08 pm

As the gringos get all drunk-happy celebrating Mexican independence day, Cinco de Mayo, AP reminds us that the other dozens of Latinos in the U.S. are all offended, because unlike Black people, we all hate each other and are terribly offended if we are mistaken for a Dominican, Colombian, Cuban, Salvadorean, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican, Guatemalan, Argentinian Mexican.

On May 5, Mexican dominance irks other Latinos

By MANUEL VALDES, AP

SEATTLE – With mariachis, tequila and parades, Cinco De Mayo will be celebrated this week in parties across the nation, kicking off a commemoration of Mexican heritage in the United States as a pseudo-holiday that has been adopted by the general population.

But for Dagoberto Reyes, a Salvadorian immigrant living in Los Angeles, May 5 is more a reminder of the dominance Mexican culture has in a country that is home to immigrants from many Latin American countries. His prime example: Los Angeles-area public schools.

“Our kids go to this school system, and the school system is more preoccupied with Mexico’s history, and not the rest of Latin America’s, much less El Salvador’s,” said Reyes, director of Casa de la Cultura, a Salvadorian community center. “They came back celebrating Cinco De Mayo. That holiday means nothing to us.” (In El Salvador we celebrate Pulgarcito Day)

However, those in politics realize that even if they are Cuban and represent New Jersey, you will celebrate whatever group rules in numbers:

SENATOR MENENDEZ HONORS CONTRIBUTIONS OF MEXICAN AMERICANS IN CELEBRATION OF CINCO DE MAYO

Washington, DC – Today US Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), chairman of the Senate Democratic Hispanic Task Force a champion for issues faced by the Latino community, joined millions of Americans in celebrating Cinco de Mayo and the important contributions of Mexican-Americans to the United State. This holiday marks the Mexican army’s defeat over the French army in 1862 and is a symbol of cultural celebration and pride.

How to Beat an Immigrant to Death and Get Away With It

By La bloguera, May 2, 2009 6:58 am

Blaming immigrants for everything from PMS to the cooties may get you fired, but beating a real live one to death gets you ACQUITTED!

Yes mi gente, while the flojo caucus is busy congratulating Obama for mentioning that he may eventually do something about immigration reform maybe if Nancy Pelosi gives him permission, in other news, an all white jury acquitted a bunch of white kids who beat a Mexican to death because he was with a white girl he “fought back”, and therefore was obviously the aggressor.

Teens cleared in killing

POTTSVILLE — Two Shenandoah teenagers were acquitted late Friday night of killing illegal Mexican immigrant Luis Ramirez Zavala. Brandon J. Piekarsky, 17, of Shenandoah Heights, and Derrick M. Donchak, 19, of Shenandoah, were convicted of simple assault.

The defendants hugged each other after the verdicts were read, and friends and family members clapped.

Jurors deliberated for nearly eight hours before reaching their verdict around 10:45 p.m., Friday.

The all-white jury of six men and six women began deliberating about 3 p.m.

“He was beaten badly. His skull was fractured in two spots,” Assistant District Attorney Robert P. Frantz said in his closing argument Friday.

Lawyers for Piekarsky and Donchak argued the boys did nothing wrong and prosecutors rushed to judgment without fully considering the evidence.

“Is it fair to these kids who are on trial for their lives?” Frederick J. Fanelli, Piekarsky’s lawyer, asked.

Prosecutors alleged the teens baited the undocumented Mexican immigrant into a fight with racial epithets, provoking an exchange of punches and kicks that ended with Ramirez convulsing in the street, foaming from the mouth.

He died two days later in a hospital in Danville.

Piekarsky, 17, had faced a charge of third-degree murder for allegedly delivering a fatal kick to Ramirez’s head after he was knocked to the ground. He also was found not guilty of ethnic intimidation, aggravated assault and attempting to solicit a cover-up.

Keith Olbermann Steps in for MIA Hispanic “Leaders”

By La bloguera, April 29, 2009 10:27 am

We already know that Black people have been standing up for us for years, now, it’s a white guy’s turn.

Yes, as the right wing crazies decide to blame every virus from the beginning of time on Mexican immigrants, who comes out to denounce it?

If you guessed an organization with “Mexican”, “La Raza”, “Hispanic”, “Latino” or “Immigrant” in its name you have a fever and may be a carrier of the end of the world is near swine flu virus yourself.

Because once again, the flojo caucus, is busy with other way more important stuff.

Brown Man Begs Hopes Black Man Will Not Indict

By La bloguera, January 27, 2009 8:16 am

One of our favorite Hispanics, you know, the Mexican who lost his job to a white guy, has apparently recovered from his squash injury and is now hoping for some change he can believe in…

Alberto Gonzales: I Don’t Think Obama AG Will Prosecute Me

In his confirmation hearing Eric Holder, President Obama’s nominee for Attorney General, declared definitively that “waterboarding is torture.”

Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, in an interview with National Public Radio’s “Tell Me More” Monday, said he was worried that “making a blanket pronouncement like that” might have a negative “effect … on the morale and the dedication of intelligence officials and lawyers throughout the administration.” (Gonzales probably knows something about bad morale at the Justice Department.)

Gonzales isn’t worried, however, about himself. While some have suggested that Holder’s statement paved the way for prosecution of administration officials who participated in torture, the ex-AG says it isn’t likely. More here

Of course since this interview was on NPR, nobody heard it anyway.

But his best interview so far was with another of our favorite Hispanics, Geraldo Rivera, except that Alberto GONEzales didn’t show up because of aforementioned whack in the eye.

Meanwhile… in other news…
