Never mind the crappy economy that has some people choosing between mac & cheese and ramen noodles for dinner, while others wonder if they’ll have a roof over their head.

In the Washington la-la land known as Capitol Hill, legislators rang in the new year with an AUTOMATIC pay raise of $4,700 EACH, apparently believing it is simply too rough to live on a six-figure income.

With this little hike, the crack legislators who haven’t done a damn thing to help regular people deal with this current economic mess are now making nearly $170,000 a year. So-called “party leaders” make even more.

Some legislators realize how ridiculous this is and how terrible it looks PR-wise to raise their OWN DAMN SALARIES while their constituents spend most of the day rubbing two nickels together. So they’ve proposed a number of things, including donating their raise to charity.

And where do the Coconutters stand on the whole thing? A total of ZERO have said they’d give up their congressional raise.
