Meet your State of the Union 2010 token Hispanics

By La bloguera, January 27, 2010 2:00 pm

The White House has released the list of those chosen few who get to sit somewhere near Michelle Obama during the first president of color SOTU ever.

And is customary, there are some people on the list with Hispanic sounding names, an actual one of “Ecuadorean” origins, and of course a Latina mother with no insurance.

So here is the official White House list…

Gabriela Farfan (Madison, WI)

Gabriela is a 19-year old from Madison, Wisconsin whose passion for geology started at a young age – collecting rocks as a seven-year old with her father. In 2009, as a senior in high school, her hard-work and research won her one of the top awards in the Intel Science Talent Search, winning a scholarship for her independent research describing why certain gemstones appear to change color when viewed from different angles—a finding that directly affects the gemstone industry and may have applications in the nano and materials sciences. Gabriela is now in college as a freshman at Stanford University, and a declared geology major.

Gabriela is also a National Hispanic Scholar awardee, has two very proud parents, Abigail Farfan and Carlos Peralta, and has a real dedication to the arts: singing, drawing, painting, speaking French and Spanish, and following operas and musicals.

Cindy Parker-Martinez (Belle Isle, FL)

Cindy is a mother of two young children, who shared her story of the problems her family faces with the current health care system at a Health Care Community Discussion held at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, one of thousands of discussions held nationwide in December 2008. The Latest ‘Birther’ Conspiracy Theory: Obama Really a Dominican Baseball Player

By Don Davis
“WE ALL KNOW HOW THE DOMINICAN PLAYERS DOCTOR THEIR BIRTH CERTIFICATES. AND DON’T BE FOOLED BY OBAMA’S WEAK PITCH TO HOME PLATE  — IT WAS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF OUR SO-CALLED PRESIDENT THROWING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE A CURVEBALL.”

Stimulus We Can Beleive In: Obama Gives Latina a Lifetime Job

By La bloguera, May 26, 2009 8:24 am

We usually don’t do breaking news, but we will make a minor exception…

President Barack Obama will name his nominee to replace Supreme Court Justice David Souter at 10:15 am ET on Monday, an adviser told NBC News.

NBC News also reports that Obama intends to nominate federal appeals court judge Sonia Sotomayor as the first Hispanic to serve on the Supreme Court.

Once I have some coffee I will be able to come up with something sarcastic to say about all this…

CIA plot against Hugo Chávez kills Mexican Instead

By La bloguera, April 27, 2009 8:42 am

So we all know that the CIA tried to kill Castro with cigars, beard ointments, Gloria Estefan music and yes that Bay of Swine Pigs invasion.

Now that Fidel has become a decrepit dictator columnist, the CIA has focused its Latin American operations on our next favorite head of state, Fidel wannabe, Hugo Chávez.

And since Obama outlawed all that waterboarding, the CIA had to come up with something else.

The plot is SO COMPLICATED, it may actually seem unreal and totally made up by a blogger who is pretending to work.

But the facts are undeniable:

  • On the evening of April 16, Barack Obama had a super fancy dinner at Mexico City’s Museo Nacional de Antropología, (where BTW there is currently and exhibit about ex-axis of evil location Iran).
  • That night, also present was museum curator Felipe Solís Olguín, who presumably showed Obama around, shared an unprotected handshake,  explained the history of Monctezuma’s revenge and gave him some souvenirs from the Teotihuacán Wal-Mart.
  • Then a few days later almost immediately, Solís, who as far as we know is not related to ex-coconut Hilda Solís, was found dead, of flu-like symptoms (in this case diabetes and cardiac arrest).
  • That same night, Obama flew to Trinidad and Tobago,  to meet his book club buddy, Hugo Chávez.
  • Then, they had an unprotected handshake and exchanged a book about veins.
  • Within a few hours Chávez also started showing symptoms of being sick.
  • Later that day, fueled by rumors, people in Miami started the preparations to celebrate Castro and or Chávez’ imminent demise, as is their custom.
  • Chávez himself has preemptively  denounced ad nauseam these plots against him.

We haven’t had this much fun since CNN En Español tried to kill Chávez.

AND of course, we are not the only ones spreading a version of this very suspicious sequence of events. (except for the Chavez part)

Obama Gives Socialist Writer a Huge Stimulus

By La bloguera, April 20, 2009 8:02 am

We all know that if Obama is seen reading a book, its sales go through the roof.

Now we know that even receiving a book, even if it isn’t in English, was written decades ago, is all about U.S. imperialism to the south, and even the author no longer talks about it, it becomes an instant bestseller.

Obviously Chávez does not expect Obama to read the book, because he gave him a copy in Spanish.

He probably thinks Obama is a generic agitated South American old man-woman.

Next time try an I-pod with llanero music or the greatest hits of Franco de Vita!

Chávez creates overnight bestseller with book gift to Obama

Sales surge for book about history of Latin America’s exploitation after exchange at summit of Americas

During a session of the summit of the Americas in Trinidad at the weekend, Chávez strode up to Obama, patted him on the shoulder and, with a friendly handshake, gave him a paperback copy of Eduardo Galeano’s 1973 work, Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent.

More here

As footage of the encounter appeared on news bulletins, the book rocketed up the US paperback sales chart of the online bookseller Amazon, soaring from number 54,295 to sixth place within 24 hours.

More on the book, which I actually did attempt to read ages ago. (I still have it, maybe I can sell it on Ebay).

But, at least unlike the Queen, Chávez fortunately did not give Obama a copy of his own CD. You can hear why for yourself:
