Black Organic Farmer visits Brown Future Illegal Farmers

By La bloguera, April 13, 2010 6:17 am

Taking a break from planting jalapeños in her organic garden, our  Primera Dama is headed solo to México where she will talk to young people about not immigrating to the United States self determination.

According to WaPo:

Obama will be in Mexico City for a total of about 40 hours and is not expected to travel outside the capital. She will speak to young people — from primary-school students to recent college graduates — encouraging them to become active in their communities and take responsibility for their own future.

We can only hope that unlike her husband she doesn´t bring back swine flu.

I also hope that as the trip goes on, I will come up with something clever to say about it.

Meet your State of the Union 2010 token Hispanics

By La bloguera, January 27, 2010 2:00 pm

The White House has released the list of those chosen few who get to sit somewhere near Michelle Obama during the first president of color SOTU ever.

And is customary, there are some people on the list with Hispanic sounding names, an actual one of “Ecuadorean” origins, and of course a Latina mother with no insurance.

So here is the official White House list…

Gabriela Farfan (Madison, WI)

Gabriela is a 19-year old from Madison, Wisconsin whose passion for geology started at a young age – collecting rocks as a seven-year old with her father. In 2009, as a senior in high school, her hard-work and research won her one of the top awards in the Intel Science Talent Search, winning a scholarship for her independent research describing why certain gemstones appear to change color when viewed from different angles—a finding that directly affects the gemstone industry and may have applications in the nano and materials sciences. Gabriela is now in college as a freshman at Stanford University, and a declared geology major.

Gabriela is also a National Hispanic Scholar awardee, has two very proud parents, Abigail Farfan and Carlos Peralta, and has a real dedication to the arts: singing, drawing, painting, speaking French and Spanish, and following operas and musicals.

Cindy Parker-Martinez (Belle Isle, FL)

Cindy is a mother of two young children, who shared her story of the problems her family faces with the current health care system at a Health Care Community Discussion held at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, one of thousands of discussions held nationwide in December 2008. Beaner Mouthpiece Paid Less Than Black Counterpart

By La Neta, July 2, 2009 8:11 pm

It’s real nice to see that even in this wishy-washy economy, some White House folks are doing well for themselves…making over 100Gs (some WELL over that for gawd knows what they do):

But why is the person in charge of Hispanic media paid such crap compared to the rest of the press office, and almost $15,000 LESS than the person in charge of African American media?

Ealons, Corey A.      $78,000  Director of African American Media

Miranda, Luis A.      $65,000  Director of Hispanic Media

Just wondering…

New York Panic Air Force One Photo-Op: The Latino Angle

By La bloguera, April 29, 2009 7:14 am

Guess what? When you get over blaming the Mexicans for the end of the world flu pandemic, you can now blame them for creating mass panic and temper tantrums all over New York City.

Turns out, that a few seconds after the lovely people of the White House press corps lambasted Gibbs about the scare-the-hell-out-of-everybody flight, a Latino was made to apologize:

THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release April 27, 2009

Statement from Louis Caldera, Director White House Military Office, on Air Force One flight over New York

“Last week, I approved a mission over New York . I take responsibility for that decision. While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey , it’s clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. I apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused

AND since the last thing you EVER want to do is get New Yorkers mad, this little press release apology is not going to do it.

A HEAD WILL HAVE TO ROLL

And who better than a Clinton leftover, from a community with no political will/power/clout to defend him, to do the honors. (I predict not even the flojo caucus will send a press release). Continue reading 'New York Panic Air Force One Photo-Op: The Latino Angle'»
