Hispanic Caucus et al, Skip White House Healthcare Summit

By La bloguera, March 6, 2009 8:39 am

OK mi gente, we know that Latinos are the most uninsured ever in the United States. Some 15 million have no health insurance except for la curandera, and every other week we get some report about all the other additional health barriers we face just to get an aspirina or Vicks.

So how is it possible that at the biggest healthcare summit EVER,  there are only TWO Hispanic congresspersons?

Xavier Becerra, as part of the Dem leadership, and Lucille Roybal Allard, as herself, were the only two listed.

The other token Hispanics of note that were there:

No Latinos Were Hurt in the Making of this Debate

By La bloguera, October 8, 2008 10:05 am

I repeat: No Latinos were hurt, employed, featured, consulted, shown, considered, included, acknowledged or recognized in the making of this presidential debate, or the VP debate, or any other debate.

Yes mi gente, we may be the largest numerical minority of the nation, but we are absolutely excluded, disregarded, absent, ignored, passed over and non-existent when it comes to debating, commentating, covering, moderating, or EVEN ASKING questions to the candidates in the supposed most important election ever.

(In all those foreign policy “debates” not one mention of Mexico, a country that affects the daily lives of Americans waaaaay more than Russia or Somalia, or Colombia where billions of our taxpayer dollars go, or the Dominican Republic, we can’t do baseball without it)

Passing mentions of Hugo Chávez and the Castro duo don’t count, because they always appear in the same sentence as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and foreign oil and/or dictators.

So while “our leaders” are all excited that a few more Latinos will be participating in that secret activity that happens once every 4 years (OK, 2 years), and they keep saying we are the swing vote, yada yada yada…. I have news for you: Our collective political weight is about as real as Joe Biden’s hair plugs, and about as relevant as a copy of the Constitution in Alberto Gonzales’ house.

Sometimes you just don´t have the time to elaborate on all the action, so here goes, once again, in bullet form.

  • When Si Se Puede is not an option to court the Hispanic vote because you are a republican…. wear a Guayabera

Latino Congressperson Impressed Himself by Talking to Bernanke

By La bloguera, January 18, 2008 6:35 pm

So we can only assume that Xavier Becerra, is not only the first in his family to go to college (and Congress) but he must be the first in his whole familia to have ever talked face to face to a Fed Chairman…. or why else would he be drooling allover himself and send out stuff like this…

But before you start celebrating this as some great accomplishment for Hispanics, i.e. a Latino was on T.V. in a non-immigration related story, well guess what Becerra he asked him about?????

if you said Food Stamps you are correct!!!

BECERRA-BERNANKE BACK-AND-FORTH AT BUDGET HEARING

WASHINGTON, D.C. – At a hearing today of the House Budget Committee, Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, endorsed the need for an economic stimulus package in accordance with the “timely, targeted and temporary” principles advocated by Democrats in congress and a broad range of economists.

MTV And Becerra To Revive Immigration Reform with Reggaeton

By Ticatecla, September 28, 2007 1:21 pm

Well well well. If Congress can’t handle immigration reform the next logical step is take it to MTV. Also, how the hell did Becerra sneak in there??

Forum tackles immigration

MTV Tr3s, MTV’s year-old channel for U.S. Hispanics, is bringing the immigration debate to an audience intimately familiar with the issue in Beyond Borders: An MTV Tr3s Immigration Forum (btw, why did they title it like a bad Angelina Jolie movie??).

The program airs at 6 p.m. Saturday on MTV Tr3s, which is Channel 605 on Comcast cable in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, and Channel 416 on DirecTV.

MTV Tr3s hopes to mobilize and inspire a potentially powerful voting bloc. According to the Pew Hispanic Center, 50,000 Hispanics turn 18 every month in the United States, and 87 percent of them are eligible to vote.
The forum, hosted by Gustavo Arellano, creator of the nationally syndicated Ask A Mexican column, includes Residente, the outspoken rapper/lyricist of popular reggaeton duo Calle 13, actress Betty Ortiz of the hit ABC show Ugly Betty, Los Angeles rapper Malverde, and U.S. Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Calif.

It’s like their new reality show where Latino gangstaton plus lowly politician unites us all into a single brown vote! I’m sure the viewership will be through the roof, although I’m still holding out for the Mirthala Salinas telenovela
