Liveblogging the SOTU: Latino Version

By La bloguera, January 28, 2008 8:45 pm

OK mi gente, here goes our liveblogging of the last ever SOTU address by a Bush (until George P. gets elected).

Of course in bullet form, I can´t be expected to participate in the SOTU drinking game and write in full paragraphs as well.

  • Xavier Becerra just gave a big hug to Barack Obama.
  • Hilda Solís enters in mauve very cozy with Hillary Clinton
  • This is not really a “Latino” comment per se, but Cheney looks really, really sour
  • Supreme Court justices enter, oh wait, no Hispanics, EVER.
  • Ileana Ros Lehtinen, is wearing red, again!!!! She always manages to get on camera.
  • Secretary of Commerce, Carlos Gutiérrez enters, dollar continues to fall, he is not wearing red.
  • Ileana Ros Lehtinen gets close to Bush, fails to get a kiss.
  • Loretta Sánchez hanging out close by, also wearing red.
  • Some guy with a strange generic voice is translating for Bush on Univision
  • Bush just said Hispanic students
  • OMG HE DID mention Latin America!!!! Peru, Colombia and Panamá, camera pans to Carlos Guitiérrez
  • OMG he mentions Colombia again, and says if U.S. doesn´t approve free trade, Hugo Chávez wins.
  • Senator Salazar, Hispanic sitting closest to Obama…. oh wait, he is trying to be close to Ted Kennedy.
  • Ok, so here goes the immigration part.. hmm where have I heard this thing before…
  • So far no Latinos have booed Bush… What are they waiting for??????
  • I know she is not Latina, but where is Cindy Sheehan???? this is getting waaay too long…
  • OK this post is getting long.

  • Bush mentions Los Angeles, and something about 9-11, kind of reminds us of all those fake terror alerts…
  • Cuba!!!! of course it was mentioned in the same sentence as Zimbabwe so who know what that was about.
  • Ken Salazar says hi to Bush, he is all smiles.
    • Ileana Ros Lehtinen gets close to Bush, again!!!! Consider it stalking.

  • OK IT IS OVER!!!!!! If you expect me to liveblog the Democratic response… well that lady made me fall asleep….
