Border News Sancocho: Border Patrol Needs Some Love, and a Crocodile Story…

We don´t have a border section,  we may soon, but for now we will all have to settle for an occasional border news round up:

What the Border (the one with Mexico) needs, is not a wall… but some loving:

SAN DIEGO – The smugglers who lured border inspector Richard Elizalda into helping them sneak illegal immigrants from Mexico into the United States showered him with cash bribes and luxury cars, but love proved to be the ultimate temptation.

U.S. District Court Judge Larry A. Burns chastised Elizalda, a 10-year veteran of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, for doing “extraordinary things” to win the affections of an attractive and attentive woman who was also a smuggler. (of course the fact that he also got a BMW didn’t hurt either)

Interesting to note that the smuggling ring was lead by a woman CEO…. and speaking of woman and smuggling, this is way at another border, but worth noticing:

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – A Palestinian woman wearing a strangely bulging robe was caught at the Gaza-Egypt border trying to smuggle three baby crocodiles strapped to her waist, an official said Monday.

The reptiles, their jaws tied shut, were apparently bound for a Gaza zoo, said Maria Telleria, a spokeswoman for European observers who run the Rafah crossing.

AND unto that other totally unsecure border with Canada, were apparently you can even sleepwalk across the border:

TORONTO (Reuters) – A man is in custody on an immigration-related charge after being rescued from Niagara Falls near the U.S. border over the weekend, claiming to have fallen asleep on an inflatable mattress, authorities said on Monday.

The 42-year-old man, a Spanish citizen, was detained as he was considered “a flight risk.”He was rescued from a chunk of ice 1.5 kilometres upstream from Niagara Falls near the U.S. border.

Good thing he was caught on the Canadian side and therefore will get decent healthcare…
